Quick Measurement Tips
Here are a few tips to get an idea of how much flooring you will need to purchase for your space. We strongly recommend having your installer do the final measure before you order your product, to ensure you have the right amount. But for budgeting purposes that will help you estimate cost, try the following:
- Measure the width and length of the room in at least two places. Use the larger of the two measurements to ensure that you purchase enough flooring material.
- When measuring, add an extra 2 inches (5 centimetres) on all sides to accommodate for rough-cut edges.
- When installing Carpet in pieces, make sure the grain of the pile flows in the same direction.
- When working with patterned Carpet or Vinyl, you will require extra material to ensure the pieces of the pattern line up evenly. Ask one of our associates about “pattern repeat.”
