Make your floors inviting.

It seems one of the latest trends in flooring is both fun and easy to implement. Layering area rugs on top of each other, smaller on bigger, or using them on top of carpet, is this year's "must do" in home fashion.

Several popular websites have made mention of this new trend, including Houzz and HGTV. Lily Gahagan from Houzz offers some practical advice. She suggests swapping out area rugs in high-traffic areas as opposed to replacing wall-to-wall carpet. Ideal candidates for layering include smaller rugs that make a statement, which can be placed on top of larger neutral coloured rugs. Splashes of colour can help draw your eye to various parts of your room to create an eclectic feel. Rugs are also incredibly easy to switch out and replace for a new season or special event.

According to Caren Baginski at HGTV, layered area rugs are one of the top designer tips this year. This trend is being featured in popular magazines and professional portfolios. She quotes Nicole Gibbons' design advice to "allow at least 12 to 18 inches of space on all sides so that you can see the contrast between the rugs."

We love the warmth and textures that rug layering offers to your home. Why not drop by and see what kinds of affordable and modern area rugs we have in stock? There's no easier way to revitalize your space while keeping current, protecting your floor, and investing in something that can last a lifetime.

UPDATE!

Celebrity Nicole Richie was interviewed by Elle Decor and says she invites guests to come and sit on her floors. She uses layers of area rugs to make things comfortable, with blankets and pillows nearby.

From the article:

"Nicole creates an easy atmosphere with rugs and blankets—laying different rugs on the ground so that guests have room to sit, and keeping white Moroccan wedding blankets within reach in the event that outdoor gatherings get chilly. 'I really love the relaxed vibe of friends sitting on the floor, D.L. & Co. candles burning, and listening to music,' she says."
