 A level loop carpet is very sturdy and great for high-traffic areas. Typically called "berber carpet" these tight level loops have great durability and wear well over time. 

 A velvet or plush cut carpet is the softest underfoot. These types give that luxurious feeling, especially when paired with a good cushion, and are also known as "saxony carpet."

 A tip sheared carpet is essentially a combination of loop and cut piles. This type is typically used to create patterns in the carpet.
